What is your favourite book? 📚

In class I was asked to pick my favourite fiction novel and it made me realise there is no way to possible choose one. I feel like most people that choose to read, because they enjoy it, change their favourite novel every other day especially when they have started a new one. Most of the books on my bookshelf I have given 5 stars because they made me feel the best emotions and made me love every bit of it. Though some may have had moments, that were hated it only makes me think about how the author wrote a story where I had the best time arguing with the characters. And in my eyes, being overwhelmed with emotions is better than passively reading through a story just to make it to the end.

Then I thought about all of the other reason why I could pick just one favourite book. Each genre I read, there is a book that I enjoyed the most and then after all that there is the subgenres.

One of the biggest examples of subgenre is romance. You've got the sports, historical, contemporary, dark, then on top of that the tropes of enemies to lovers, friends to lovers and so much more. So many options to choose from that I wouldn't be able to pick ONE favourite overall. I have to pick one from each genre, and even then, that is difficult.

Then you have the fantasy novels that are surrounded by romance or the ones that are political and have an incredible world building aspect of all the characters involved.

The mystery and crime novels which are two are not the same but have common conventions. One is finding out the culprit (crime) and the other is understanding the real reason why someone would do something or to find what they have been hiding all this time (mystery).

Don't get me started on a book series. Because honestly how are you meant to pick your favourite book in the series. Is it meant to be the first book? The last book? The book that made you feel the most? Or the book with the best character development? Then what if I can't pick the best in the series and I just like it as a whole as the characters grow and I feel more connected to them.

There is no way that the decision for book is as easy as asking "What is your favourite book?" Whenever I am asked, I have to rant and explain myself because there is no simple way to tell someone the love I have for books. I mean if I really wanted to there is the book thar got me back into reading. Oh, or maybe the book that made me went to ball? Or the book that gave me a new outlook on life? There is so many options for the incredible world that books create just through the black printing on a page.

So I suppose at the end of this little rant I want to ask YOU a question.

What is your favourite book? 😆
